Apprenticeship Training

Miami-Dade County Public Schools’ Adult Education Division has established contractual relationships with major joint apprenticeship committees in the county. Most, if not all of the committees require high school graduation and passage of Algebra prior to admission into training. A selection committee meets annually and determines, based on labor market forecasts, who and how many new apprentices will be admitted into the various programs. Apprenticeship opportunities consist of a minimum of 150 hours of classroom training and 1,500 hours of paid employment annually. The recruitment process includes an annual organized effort to make graduating seniors aware of this type of training opportunity. Apprenticeship training is available in the following areas:

  • Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Pipefitting Technicians
  • Electricians
  • Heat and Frost Insulators
  • Plumbers
  • Sheet Metal Workers
